Best of Beauty – Kylie Jenner for Sinful Colors

When Kylie Jenner came out with her Lip Kit, it made perfect sense. After all, the social media/reality TV star is known for her plump, full lips. Fans everywhere try to emulate her lips using fillers, suction cups(?) and lip plumping products. So Kylie came out with her own product to help her fans get her style.

When I heard about Kylie Jenner’s new collaboration with Sinful Colors professional nail polish, I was skeptical. After all, what could possibly make Kylie an expert on nail polish, any more than the rest of us?

Then I saw that Kylie’s newest collection was called Trend Matters, featuring matte nail polishes, and I was hooked. I LOVE the matte trend. In fact, I’ve almost exclusively been buying matte makeup, from NYX matte lipsticks to NYX matte setting sprays and matte eyeshadow palettes. I’m tired of the shiny nail polish thing, so I decided to give this collection a try.

I opted for Koral Riff, a bright, orangey-pink shade that screams vacation. It’s definitely pink, but it’s not as in-your-face as the Fuschia U! shade.

I took it home and gave it a whirl. As I painted on the polish, I admired how easily it went on. I’m terrible at painting nails, so I often have to shell out money for the Sally Hansen professional nail polish line, that comes with a salon-quality brush, otherwise I’ll end up painting my fingers and completely missing my nails. Yes I am that bad.

To my dismay, the color went on bright, shiny, shocking pink! Yes, I love pink and the shade was beautiful, but it was shiny and just so ordinary. Oh well. I went about my day.

Then, lo and behold, I looked down at my hands, and magic had occurred! The nail polish had dried into this lovely matte shade. The color was still bold and vacation-y, but gone was the shine. My nails had a matte feel and look, and I fell in love.

I’ve been showing off my new mani to anyone who will listen. I just love how different it is, in a sea of nail polishes that may have fun names but basically all look the same. The other colors in the collection are definitely ideal for darker skin – rich purples, deep burgundies and greens are not the best shades on fair skin – but I’ll be trying out the other lighter shades for sure.
