Fun Weekend Ideas Friday: The Misfit

I’m a Happy Hour fiend. I feel personally offended when I go to a bar on a weekday at 5 p.m. or later and there are not discounted drinks. I mean, I just worked a full day and I don’t want to blow all my earnings on a glass of house wine!

The Misfit understands this. Located right in the heart of Downtown Santa Monica by the Third Street Promenade, they are close to my work, close to cheap parking and right by the beach. Best yet, their drinks are” off during Happy Hour. Their already cheap $7 white wine and fruit sangria – BAM – $3.50. My wallet did a happy dance, I swear.

I’ve gone to The Misfit for both happy hour on a weekday and out at night. I must say that happy hour is much more fun. The Misfit is first and foremost a restaurant (their kitchen is open all night long) so most of the space is dedicated to candlelit tables. Even at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night, the host asked if we were there for dinner. Nope – just wanted to party! Unfortunately, The Misfit is more of a sit-around-and-drink kind of bar (if you can even find a seat at the bar – you’ll probably be stuck standing).

So although it’s not the best bar for partying or for a weekend excursion, this vibe does make it perfect for happy hour because you can actually TALK to the person you’re there with! What a novel concept! The bartenders are friendly and very skilled – check out this photo from The Misfit’s Instagram, where they post photos of mouth-watering hand-crafted cocktails on the reg:

So if you want to catch up with a friend or enjoy a drink without breaking a bank, try The Misfit next time you’re in SaMo.
