If I Went to the Derby/Lived in the South

I’m a total California girl in heart, spirit and style. But I must say, some of the more traditional preppy outfits of the South really draw me in!

For example, hats. So few people in LA wear hats. If there is a hat, it’s usually some kind of hipster fedora or felt hat. There’s none of the floppy sun hats, oversize glamorous hats or outrageous hats you see at traditional events in the South, like at the Kentucky Derby.

When I saw this beautiful beige floppy sunhat with a pretty ribbon bow on the Venice Boardwalk, I vowed to buy it and work it into my wardrobe. The best way, I felt, was to emphasize its girliness with other feminine items.

This beige lace tank dress is from Forever 21. It’s so ladylike and feminine, but also form-fitting and sexy. I have worn it wine tasting in Santa Barbara, to brunch on the beach, etc.

I brought out the nude color of the dress and the hat with these nude and gold wedges from Target Style. These are absolutely my favorite shoes, as they are so comfortable and go with everything, and the canvas is a nice touch.

Next, for accessories. I opted for warm gold jewelry. This adorable seahorse charm necklace is from Forever 21, and the gold cuff ring is from Gorjana.
