I’ve been a fashionista for much of my life, but I’m admittedly not a fan of hair or makeup. I have gotten my getting-ready routine down to 30-minutes to curl my hair, straighten my bangs and apply makeup. Any longer than a half hour and I start to go crazy.
I recently started trying to learn more about makeup and how to apply it. I stopped by Ulta to purchase some items. Since then, I’ve been having a lot of fun trying out new products and seeing what works on me and what doesn’t.
Take a peek inside my makeup bag to see what I pack for a day at the beach!
I start with applying CoverGirl CG Smoothers BB Cream. This step evens out my skin tone and also creates a smooth canvas for me to apply my foundation on. Not to mention it’s SPF 21 – not enough SPF for the beach, but a great addition to everyday life walking around.
Next, I apply Mary Kay Timewise Matte-Wear Foundation. I use shade Beige #5, which is technically formulated for Hispanic people, in lieu of wearing a lighter foundation shade and adding bronzer. Because I self-tan my body and neck, this shade blends my face into the rest of my body seamlessly.
You don’t want to be melting off makeup at the beach! So I kept my look natural. I started with this “Natural” eyeshadow palette from NYX. I like applying the brown shade second-from-the-right near my lash line, and the gold shade second-from-the-left on my lid.
I blend these shades together, and highlight the inner corners of my eyes and below my brow bone, with Maybelline New York Color Tattoo eyeshadow stick in”Barely Beige”. I like this shade much better than the highlighter shade that comes in the NYX palette, which I think is too shockingly white for most skin tones.
Mascara is an absolute must. My favorite mascara is the classic Maybelline New York Great Lash mascara, but I only buy the “Lots of Lashes” branch of this line. The brush it comes with creates full, plump lashes that are big and bold.
I keep my lips natural for the beach. Burt’s Bees beeswax lip balm is a must for any day, but definitely for a warm, dry, dehydrating beach. This NYX Matte lipstick in “Natural” is a nice shade that adds some color without being too done-up.
My super-cute makeup bag, with the perfect summery combination of bright blue and beige canvas, was only $3 at Target. What a steal.
What makeup do you wear for a minimalist look at the beach? Let me know in the comments!

I will teach you!! My friend just taught me recently. Apparently I was curling one side of my hair “over” and the other side “under” for years and I had no idea. -__-
