Who says that fall colors have to be boring (just black, gray and beige) or that the textures have to be thick and itchy (wool, knit, tweed)? I am loving the vibrancy of the color of the season, maroon, and fall textures like satin, fur and leather.
This outfit is so basic, yet it perfectly says “fall in SoCal”. This basic maroon v-neck t-shirt is from H&M’s basics collection (where everything is magically 2 for $10 and rainbows and unicorns are in abundance). The black leather skirt was under $10 at Forever 21. Together, the colors just exude”fall”. The soft t-shirt also combines well with the shiny faux leather black skirt for an interesting and relevant mix of textures.
To dress the look up even further, I added these black and cork heels from Payless. The black is very fall, but the cork, and the straps, make it a good transition from summer (which is 11 months out of the year here in LA). The flippy skirt, paired with the heels, make me feel like prancing and twirling around the room.
This outfit is pretty basic, and focuses more on colors and textures than add-ons. But it’s easy to make this look less basic by playing with accessories. Small charm necklaces make it cute and flirty, colored or textured statement shoes can take it from the office to happy hour, etc.
I’ve officially declared a ban on boring fall colors and fabrics. With fun trends like these, there’s just no excuse to be blah this season!
