The kimono trend started quite a few seasons ago. You saw all the beachy, palm tree ones at fast-fashion stores like Forever 21. Girls were wearing them as cover-ups and as light summer jackets.
I was banking on this trend being a super-short fad and just fading away. I was wrong, as it’s nearly a year later and kimonos are still on point.
This black and white kimono was a hand-me-down gift from my friend. I like the cut, the pattern and the colors. I especially like that it’s not so beachy or tropical, like many kimonos are.
I paired it with a black spaghetti strap top from Forever 21 and black yoga pants, also from Forever 21. I love how the super-sleek lines and formfitting cuts of these pieces pair with the flowy, oversize kimono.
I added these moto ankle booties from Payless for some extra edge. After all, if we’re going to be channeling Japan, we have to throw them some recognition for their edgy style (the country isn’t all cutsey Harajuku).
I kept jewelry simple with the “Return to Tiffany’s” silver heart necklace.
Do you have a kimono? What do you wear it with? Let me know in the comments!
