OOTD: Modern 70s

The old adage that everything comes back around in fashion is proven to be correct time and time again. This is also evident in spring 2015 collections, as 70s clothing, shoes and accessories are all over the place.Mustard 70s dress 2

Head to any fast-fashion store and you’ll see bell-bottom jeans, high-waisted jeans, fringe, suede, bright colors, mustard, boho peasant blouses, oversize shift dresses, and so much more that is reminiscent of the carefree hippie decade. I have always loved 70s style – so much that as a kid I LIVED in my bell-bottom jeans and peace signs.Mustard 70s dress 1

So I am SO HAPPY that this style has come back around yet again. I instantly fell in love with this eclectic mustard dress at Forever 21 and knew I had to have it. It is perfect in so many ways. First of all, its cut (high neckline, bell sleeves, A-line cut with short lengthy but flowy ends) just SCREAMS 70s. The mustard color is also very 70s, and it’s also one of the top colors for spring. It’s just so fun, but it’s also kind of conservative. I knew that I would feel comfortable and confident wearing this to brunch or to a work event (nothing worse than wearing black to a work event – color helps you stand apart in the crowd!). In other words, a great investment piece.Mustard 70s dress 3

I can dress it down/casually with a dark brown braided belt and my dark brown riding boots. OR I can go all out and really play up the 70s factor.Mustard 70s dress 4

The first way to do this is to add brown wedges. Nothing is more 70s than platform shoes, right? These brown wedges from Target are a warm brown, so they compliment the mustard color really well.Mustard 70s dress 5

Next, I opted for this amazing, funky, 70s-inspired necklace that my mom bought for me. It’s my favorite but doesn’t go with very many outfits…luckily it is PERFECT for this dress. The v-shaped angles and bright colors are reminiscent of jewelry in the 70s. And I like how including the bright colors is unapologetic for the bright mustard dress.Mustard 70s dress 6
