OOTD: Playing Pretend with Fashion

This black and white striped crop top makes me think of being a sailor, not being a French mime, although some people might get that impression too. I love how funky it is! The asymmetrical cut is so fun. And best of all, it was super affordable at Forever 21.

In keeping with the sailor vibe, but adding in a pirate vibe, I paired this top with maroon high-waisted shorts from Charlotte Russe. Maroon, black and white is a well-known “pirate” combo, at least in our stereotypical whitewashed Disney interpretations of pirates. Plus, the string of gold buttons on the shorts are very nautical to me.

Shiny gold Sperries weren’t invented in pirate times, but hey, this is my pretend pirate fantasy so I’ll wear what I want.

To top off the look, I added a gold giraffe necklace and gold criss-cross ring, which I’ll pretend I had hand-fashioned out of some of my pirate loot, and not purchased from J. Crew and Forever 21, respectively.
