I LOVE Nasty Gal. Not just for the clothes – although yes, they are fantastic and sexy – but for the company itself. When Girl Boss, the autobiographical account of how Nasty Gal began by founder Sophia Amoruso, came out, I fell in love with Amoruso and her philosophy. After spending time dumpster diving, stealing and hopping from thankless boring job to thankless boring job, Amoruso discovered vintage clothing and Ebay, and the rest was history.
Amoruso’s tale reminds us that we all are human. We all make mistakes. We’re all human. When you see those memes that remind you that Oprah was fired, and J.K. Rowling was a dirt-poor single mom who wrote the concept for Harry Potter on a napkin in a coffee shop, you should feel inspired. It’s ok to not have it all figured out yet. No matter where you are now, you have the power to turn your life around and become whatever you want to be.
Now, enough for the mush talk. Being a #GirlBoss is about all these things, but it’s also about commanding confidence. I love this black pleather dress because it is sexy without being too revealing and makes me walk with my head held high – something every woman should do every day.
My favorite part of this dress is the band/design in front. The strap, which comes from the cleavage area up behind the neck, emphasizes my boobs and is also just a really fun design. Plus, it eliminates the need for a necklace, a welcome addition when you’re getting ready to hit the town and have to also worry about hair and makeup.
To emphasize the “edge” factor of the black pleather, I added these black suede ankle boot stilettos from Payless. I am obsessed with these shoes. They’re sexy, edgy, fun and super-comfortable. Plus, they go with just about everything.
How do you dress like a #GirlBoss when you hit the town? Let me know in the comments!
