
I almost never eat dessert, but when I do, I opt for doughnuts. There is just something about the yummy, hot treat that drives me crazy. But as I don’t eat sugar and don’t want to weigh 1,000 pounds, you’ll never see me at Krispy Kreme. I save my doughnut consumption for gourmet treats, like those at bld.
Bld stands for breakfast, lunch, dinner and is a great restaurant in mid-city/La Brea. Chefs Neal Fraser and Amy Knoll focus on simple dishes with high-quality, seasonal ingredients. It’s also a great place for vegetarians and vegans – their smoked BBQ tofu is to die for – but that’s a different story for a different day.
Every Wednesday night starting at 6:00 p.m., bld hosts a “Doughnut Shoppe” event. You can get 2 doughnuts for $6, and you can add on a gigantic scoop of vanilla ice cream for just $1.25. Gorge on doughnuts for just $2.50 each after that.
But the best part is that these are not ordinary doughnuts. Flavors include:

– Curried Sugar

And so much more. How do they come up with all these flavors, and make them so consistently delicious? I have no idea. But you should check them out for yourselves. Just don’t blame me for the extra 5 pounds (sorry I’m not sorry).
