Shameless Foodie: Yogi Tea

Now that winter has finally settled in (yes, even in Los Angeles – it’s 50 degrees during the day and down to 35 at night!), a nice mug of tea sounds really nice. There are so many different types of tea, making tea truly the spice of life. Ha, ha, ha.

I received two packets of Yogi Tea in a recent Influenster VoxBox for tasting and review purposes. On one cold LA night, I decided to give them a try.

The Sweet Tangerine Positive Energy flavor was my favorite.. I love citrusy teas, and this tangerine did not disappoint. I do wish the flavor was stronger, though. It was too weak for me. I like really bold, flavorful teas and I did like the tangerine, and would have liked more. Maybe to me, a strong flavor is how I know the caffeine is working?

This tea says that it”supports elevated mood and energy levels”. I’m not sure about that, but I did enjoy the citrusy caffeine kick.

I brewed a cup of the Vanilla Spice Perfect Energy tea late at night while watching a documentary on spin with my mom. I was falling asleep. The vanilla spice tea bag smelled AMAZING but again, when I brewed the tea, the flavor was weak. The vanilla spice tea is supposed to”energize the body and focus the mind? but I ended up falling asleep anyway.

In addition to”Positive Energy Teas, Yogi Teas also offer detox & wellness teas, digestive support tea, green tea, herbal tea and “women’s teas” specially formulated to work with women’s bodies.

The Yogi Tea story goes back to 1969 when yoga teacher Yogi Bhajan informed his students of an Indian tradition of brewing five Ayurvedic spices (cardamom seed, clove bud, cinnamon bark, ginger root and black pepper) into tea. This tea was locally known as”Yogi Tea”. Yogi Bhajan’s students started brewing their own Yogi Tea, beginning a company in 1984 throughout Southern California and Europe.

Each tea bag comes with a “Yogi Inspiration” quote on the tag, designed to”awaken a sense of goodness within you”. Their hashtag, #YogiTea, lets customers share their tea bag inspirations on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

My Sweet Tangerine tea informed me that”There is nothing more precious than self-trust”. Meanwhile, my Vanilla Spice tea believes”Joy is the essence of success”.

All in all, these teas were yummy and I enjoyed the Yogi Inspirations on the tea bags. But perhaps Yogi Tea is best served for those that like mild teas and flavors, not bold coffees and teas.

Disclosure: I received two Yogi Tea tea bags free for tasting and testing purposes. I received no other compensation. All opinions are my own.
